Some of what you’re carrying right now was never yours to carry.
We absorb other people’s worry, take on their pain, carry their expectations. We do it out of love. But there’s a difference between compassion and losing yourself in someone else’s weight. You can love people without drowning with them.
TODAY’S PRACTICE: Make two lists: ‘What is genuinely mine to carry.’ ‘What I’ve borrowed from others.’ Look at the second list. Take three breaths and say out loud: ‘I return this with love. It is not mine.’ Then put it down.
“You are not responsible for everyone’s peace. You are responsible for yours.”
